Stallion profile

Alba - described by many as `The nicest Double Dilute I have seen`.

2005 Perlino Hungarian Warmblood Colt. Alba has been DNA colour tested as `Ee AA CrCr`. Being Perlino means he is a double dilute (CrCr) and will always pass on a single dilute gene to all of his offspring. For those not familiar with colour genetics, a single dilute is a Palomino, Buckskin (commonly mistaken for Dun in the UK) or a Smokey Black. Alba also carrys the Red and Black factor (Ee). As if this isn`t good enough in itself, he is also homozygous for the Agouti gene (AA) and therefore he will also always pass an Agouti gene to his offspring. Agouti is the gene that is responsible for the distribution of the black pigment. Its presence means that the black pigment is concentrated in the points (legs, mane and tail) and blocked from the rest of the body, resulting in a bay rather than a black/brown horse. This means that non of Alba`s foals will be Smokey Blacks. Smokey Blacks are the least desirable of all the single dilute colours as this colour is often indistinguishable from any other non diluted black/brown horse. Alba can produce Palominos or Buckskins foals to standard solid coloured mares and Cremellos or Perlinos to mares that pass on a dilute gene. He can also produce diluted tobianos or spotty`s should the mare pass on either of those genes.

What this actually means is; Mares that only carry the black factor (EE) when crossed with Alba will always produce Buckskins. Mares that carry the black and red factor (Ee) will have a 75% chance of producing a Buckskin and 25% chance of producing a Palomino when crossed with Alba, whilst Chestnut mares (ee) will have a fifty fifty split between Palominos and Buckskins.

Alba is a stunning stallion, combining showjumping and dressage lines. He has an exceptionally laid back attitude which hopefully he will pass onto his foals. He also has paces to die for and wonderful confirmation. To make 16.2hh. He is very kind to his mares, extremely fertile getting all in foal on first covering in 2007. His first foals are due to arrive from March 2008 onwards.

Alba is from a combination of TB, Holsteiner, Trakehner, Arab, Kisber Felver and Hanoverian bloodlines, with a full five generation pedigree.

Please come and view him as the photo`s dont do him justice, and he is developing all the time.
