Icon is a home bred Lusitano X Arab stallion who is proving to be the ultimate all rounder. His Sire is IDOLO, a cremello Lusitano who stands at 17 hands. His dam is LUNIFAH is a pure bred Arabian chestnut mare; she has prestigious pedigree, being 100% Crabbet. Lunifah has some prestigious lines in her pedigree being closely related to the dam of Hachim, a former premium stallion who won the Dubai World Endurance Championships in 2005.
In 2004 Icon was brought forward to be graded by the National Stallion Association. Horses are required to perform a dressage test, ridden and loose show jumped and then ridden over a cross-country course at British Eventing Novice Level. Additionally they are marked on their confirmation, movement and temperament. Icon achieved Grade 1.
Icon was also awarded Grade 1 by the Arab Horse Society and is part of their Premium Stallion Scheme. One of the specific aims of the scheme is to encourage the testing of bloodlines and subsidize the breeding from horses that have proved themselves both under saddle and in-hand, and encourage the use of Arab blood in modern Sports Horse Breeding.
Premiums are paid to mare owners on registration of a foal. Mares can also be brought into the scheme by being brought forward to one of a number of venues. Mares do not have to be registered with the AHS to be eligible.
In 2005 Icon had a very busy eventing season with Charlotte Keevil, winning Chepstow Novice 2 day event, completing Hartbury CCI* as well as participating in his first intermediate. 2006 also proved extremely full for Icon who has managed to carry out an increasing demand of stud duties as well as participating in a number of eventing and BSJA outings. He came 6th in the Open Novice at Portman, 5th at the Novice Regional Final at Longleat, 1st at Bicton Open Novice and 5th in Stockland Lovell Intermediate. His wins so far include £265 BSJA and 33 British Eventing points, and we are hoping that 2007 proves just as exciting.
Icon’s character and temperament is honest, sane and brave. He gives the most amazing ride, being completely responsive and sensitive to the aids, and being forward going without being strong in any way. Icon is, quite simply, a true showman.
