Society licensing / grading criteria explained

Please select a society / association
The British Hanoverian Horse Society
The Coloured Horse And Pony Society (CHAPS UK)
The Connemara Pony Breeders Society
The Dales Society
The Fell Pony Society
The Hackney Society
The Percheron Society

The British Hanoverian Horse Society

Stallions are presented for grading and as an example, In Hanover last year 800 stallions were presented for initial inspection and 120 came forward for licensing.
The licensing consists of loose jumping, showing on the triangle and trotting up on hard ground.
These had leg x-rays including the stifle to Grade 2 on the international standard, vetting and a tail sample taken for drug analysis.
The Dam had to have passed the ridden performance test and have an approved pedigree according to the breeding rules and this applied to the stallion being presented for licensing. Of the 120 stallions presented 67 were licensed for the following year and were able to cover a small number of mares. To make the licensee permanent they have to pass the 70 day test at a testing station or fulfill performance requirements in their 4,5 or 6th year.

Further details are available on in the Members guide and in the Breeding Rules.
