RASE Seeks Entries for Equine Award

back
The Royal Agricultural Society of England is calling all equine colleges to enter their best student for the annual Eqvalan Duo Equine Thesis of the Year Award.

Now in its tenth year, the Award, sponsored by Merial Animal Health, is presented in recognition of academic achievement in the equestrian field and aims to showcase the best academic research to the equestrian industry; the standard and quality of which is exceptionally high.

Entries are shortlisted and the finalists present their thesis to a panel of judges and an audience of industry-based professionals during the Your Horse Live event held at Stoneleigh Park in Warwickshire on Friday 7th November 2008.

The winner will receive a £500 cheque, silverware, a 5-year membership to the Royal Agricultural Society of England and the opportunity to present their thesis at the National Equine Forum.

Last year’s winner, Soraya Morscher from the University of Limerick said: “I am overwhelmed - I thought there was no way I would win. There is no life for me without horses”.

Her winning thesis: ‘An Analysis of Peri-Parturient and Postnatal Events in Thoroughbreds’, was selected from research theses submitted by Universities in the UK and Ireland. Soraya beat off four other finalists in a presentation of her study which judges Professor Graham Suggett, Dr Emma Batson (Merial Animal Health), Dr Pat Harris (Mars Horsecare Ltd), Rachel Kay (2006 winner) and Alison Bridge (Horse & Rider Editor) described as: “fascinating and extremely useful information for the industry”.

The deadline for submitting theses is Friday 25th July 2008 and the final shortlist will be announced in early September.

To submit a thesis or for any further information, contact Chris Taylor at the Royal Agricultural Society of England, Stoneleigh Park, Warwickshire CV8 2LZ. To find out how your students can benefit from entering the competition, contact Chris on 02476 858252 or email: chris@rase.org.uk
